My left rear wheel bearings on my 2004 XL-7 recently went through a second replacement. A few weeks later, I hear a "rubbing" noise coming from the same tire. My mechanic cannot find any faults or cause of the noise. Any suggestions? Please provide: (a) Things tried so far (b) Make of auto (c) Model (d) Year (e) Engine size (f) Automatic transmission?: Had both rear tires removed - Checked brake shoes - still have 10,000 miles left on them. Drums are good. Mechanic could not trace cause of noise but admitted he hears it. |

What I would suggest because bearing noise travels, is to get the car up on a lift and manually spin each wheel and feel the suspension component attached to said wheel, such as the strut, shock or spring you will feel the vibration from a bad bearing by doing this there have been times when bearings are over torqued during installation causing premature failure so you may want to perform this inspection first then determine where to go from there. note that bearings are speed and load sensitive. |

If that inspection finds the bearings ok, what are the other possibilities for this noise, which is completely different from the noise the car made the last two times the bearings went bad? |

It certainly sounds as if it is a rotational vibration so we have to narrow it down with all rotating components . Also have you installed after market wheels or tires? check the inside of the side wall of the tire to see if there is any rubbing
